Every August, Florida's printing and graphic communications industry gathers to recognize the best work produced by printers across the state. This year's Florida Print Awards, presented by the Florida Graphics Alliance, was a record-breaker. Entries were submitted by more than 1,100 printing companies and students across Florida and were judged by an independent panel of industry professionals across 126 categories.
The awards were presented on August 21 at the Orlando World Center Marriott, bringing together more than 350 printing professionals, educators, and industry partners.
The Hartley Press had a strong night.
Out of 126 judged categories, Hartley took home 28 honors:
The Best Web Printing trophy is one of 17 Florida's Best distinctions presented each year recognizing exemplary use of specific printing processes across the state. Winning means Hartley produced the best web printing work submitted to the competition not just in Jacksonville, but statewide.
The Florida Print Awards are judged blind by an independent panel of print industry professionals from outside Florida. Judges evaluate entries on color accuracy, registration, paper selection, finishing quality, and overall production excellence. Twenty-eight awards, including the Florida's Best trophy, means the work held up across commercial printing categories that reflect the broad range of what Hartley produces every day.
The Best Web Printing trophy is one of those of which Hartley is most proud. Heatset web printing is the most demanding production environment in commercial print. Web printing runs paper at high speed from a continuous roll, through ink and heat, with color that has to hold across tens of thousands of copies. There is very little margin for error, and the margin gets smaller as the run length grows.
Hartley's web press capability has always been a differentiator. As one of the only printers in the country running a European-size heatset web press capable of producing 9" x 12" magazines and true 16-page, 9.25" x 11.875" signatures, the equipment is exceptional. Twenty-eight Florida Print Awards confirm that the work coming off that press is exceptional, too.
"The record number of entries and more than 350 people joining us for the celebration demonstrate the strength and excitement surrounding Florida's printing industry. More importantly, the quality of the work continues to show that Florida printers can compete with the very best anywhere in the country."
— Gabriel Hernandez, President and CEO, Florida Graphics Alliance
Awards don't print jobs. Equipment and people do. But awards like these are the independent, expert confirmation that the equipment and the people are performing at the level Hartley has always claimed and that Jacksonville businesses and print professionals who trust Hartley with their most important work are making the right call.
Sixty-plus years. Three generations. And now, 28 awards from the most competitive Florida Print Awards in history, including Best Web Printing in the state.
No wonder we're proud to be The Hartley Press.
